Holidays in prime location at the seaside 

Rifugio al Mare, the "refuge at the seaside", is where you can retreat to, if you wish to breathe easy again and let new impressions enhance your holidays. Family Trincali's two charming holiday apartments are found in prime location, right by the sea.

Each apartment comes with a terrace where you can relax and enjoy your 'private' view of the sea. One of Marzamemi's sandy beaches lies so-to-speak right at your feet, it is only 50 m from Rifugio al Mare.

Above all during low season Marzamemi radiates the charm of an idyllic, Sicilian fishing village. From June to September, however, you experience vibrant Italian summer and beach life. In the evenings, it takes place mainly in beautiful Piazza Santa Margherita, which is framed by restaurants, bars and nicely decorated shops. 

Two holiday apartments with comfort and style

Holiday apartment for 4 persons on the ground floor

The ground-floor apartment for four persons includes two cozy bedrooms (double bed each) and two bathrooms (shower/WC/bidet, hair dryer each). As one of the bedrooms opens onto the terrace, the idea of "from your bed right into the water" might not be too farfetched.

The living area is furnished with, amongst others, a TV, a sofa and two cozy chairs, the adjoining dining/kitchen area (incl. stove, oven, fridge-freezer, microwave) also opens onto the terrace by the sea.

Amenities include: air conditioning in all the rooms except for the kitchen area, washing machine, fly screens.

The apartment's highlight is the terrace: You could say that where it ends, the sea begins. In the outdoor area, you find garden furniture, a sunshade, a grill and an outdoor shower at your disposal.

Holiday apartment for 6 persons on the 1st floor

An external staircase runs up to the apartment for six persons on the 1st floor.

It includes an open living-dining room with kitchen unit (incl. stove, oven, fridge-freezer, microwave) and TV; three double bedrooms, two of which face the sea and open onto a French balcony; three bathrooms (shower/WC/bidet, hair dryer each), one the en suite of a bedroom.

An internal spiral staircase in the entrance area runs up to the apartment's furnished, partly shaded roof terrace with grill and a counter top to prepare your meals on. From the roof terrace you have got a view of the harbor of Marzamemi and the sea.

The apartment features air conditioning with heating device in all the rooms, washing machine and fly screens.

Guests staying at Rifugio al Mare have got free WiFi access.

Parking

You can park your car in public parking spaces along the road in front of the house.

Going out at Marzamemi, going to the beach at San Lorenzo

The nearest restaurants and bars are about 100 m from Rifugio al Mare. In the early morning, you could take a short walk to Bar Ciclope, which offers the best cornetti far and wide. You should absolutely try these Italian breakfast classics with pistachio cream.

Central Piazza Santa Margherita with more restaurants and stores is about 850 m off. Marzamemi's hip bars are found above all around the old fishing harbor and the tonnara. The first guests of the day stop by there for an aperitif. The bars really come to life on mild Sicilian summer nights, often with live music and with bar keepers who never seems to tire.

There's a small supermarket about 350 m off. For bigger shopping you should take a ride to neighboring Pachino.

Our shopping tip: When we were on site, we were made aware of and recommended the organic white wine of Cantina Milazzo. It is offered, for example, at Campisi's, not far from the old tonnara.

Sandy beach of San Lorenzo

San Lorenzo, which to the north borders on nature reserve Oasi di Vendicari, is about 3 km from Rifugio al Mare.
Marzamemi has got its piazza, San Lorenzo has got its sandy beach. Many local Sicilians consider it the most beautiful beach far and wide and it comes as no surprise that its very well organized lidi are much frequented during the summer months.

If you prefer a bit more quiet, continue on towards Oasi di Vendicari. Along the way, there are also beautiful and gently sloping beach sections, quite a number of which are without service. The same goes for the beaches within the nature reserve, entry into which however has to be paid for.
