Masseria degli Ulivi with its completely restored complex of buildings lies embedded in the picturesque hilly landscape of south-eastern Sicily on 100,000 m² premises.
The origins of the estate at Villa Vela near Noto date back to 1840. The cortile, for example, the inner courtyard where today the guests have breakfast, used to be a shelter for the sheep.
Spend feel-good holidays at elegant Masseria degli Ulivi, enjoy a relaxed atmosphere enveloped by the fragrance of olive, lemon and pomegranate trees, get to know authentic Sicily.
The guest rooms are located in various buildings of the Masseria. We have chosen for your stay standard double rooms, which are located either on the ground floor or on the 1st floor.
The rooms are characterized by wood beamed ceilings, terracotta floors and wooden furniture. Standard furnishing includes SAT-TV, air conditioning, underfloor heating, small refrigerator, safe, hair dryer in the bathroom (shower/WC/bidet).
The outdoor area of each room, which is a small outdoor seating area on the ground floor and a balcony on the 1st floor, is furnished with a table and two chairs.
WiFi access is available in the outdoor area.
Bookings of the somewhat larger, but similarly furnished Superior rooms and three-bed rooms are possible on request.
Parking: The Masseria has got a spacious parking lot.
If you need to cool off on hot days or swim a few laps for some exercise, you need only go to the nice pool area, where you can also take it easy on the loungers (pool open April - October, changes due to weather conditions possible).
You enjoy playing tennis or bocce? The two courts, both with floodlighting fixtures, are located somewhat apart from the rooms and open until 20:00 h.
Discover the surrounding area by bike. Bikes are provided free of charge (upon request and subject to availability).
Or, in keeping with the motto Sanus Per Aquam, simply relax and unwind in the outdoor spa area with jacuzzi pool.
On our tour of the premises, we were allowed a glance into the kitchen of Chef Salvatore, who told us about his passion for regional products and produce. Of course there are also ingredients produced and/or grown at the Masseria: the extra virgin olive oil, the organically cultivated vegetables, the spices from the spice garden, just to name a few. Jam and bread too are fatti in casa, home-made.
Breakfast (included): For breakfast, there is a rich buffet of sweet and hearty delicacies, which include brioche, cake, home-made bread, salami, ham and cheese as well as fresh fruit and home-made jam.
In the evening, you can of course dine à la carte at the hotel restaurant and enjoy its excellent cuisine to top off another wonderful vacation day. In good weather, meals are served on the terrace with a view of the gorgeous landscape, otherwise in the tasteful indoor area of the restaurant.
Salvatore uses fresh, home-grown and regional ingredients for the delicious creations he surprises you with every evening: Meat and cheese are purchased from local farmers, fish is bought from local fishermen, the seasonal vegetables are of organic quality and grown in the restaurant's kitchen garden.
Salvatore’s desserts are typically local treats made from almonds, walnuts, pistachios, lemons, oranges or fresh ricotta with wild thyme.
Sustainable management is of great importance at the family-run Masseria. The necessary electricity, for example, is drawn solely from the estate’s own photovoltaic system.
Ingredients for the meals are grown/produced at the Masseria or obtained from local producers and labeled "chilometro zero" ("zero kilometers").
Not only fantastic nature, great cultural diversity too awaits you, when vactioning at Masseria degli Ulivi.
Only a few kilometers off (ca. 10 km) you can visit Noto Antica, the site of the original town of Noto, which was destroyed by the 1693 earthquake and then abandoned.
About 10 km from Noto Antica and under the reign of Sicilian noblemen, Noto was then rebuilt in Baroque splendor and is today listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Of course, there are enough shops, restaurants and bars you can stop by.
UNESCO-listed Palazzolo Acreide ca. 19 km further inland is another gem of Baroque architecture.
For a day or more at the beach, we recommend the sandy beaches of Calabernardo and Lido di Noto (18 km) as well as the sandy bay of Cala Mosche at nature reserve Oasi di Vendicari (21 km), the latter also a great place for hiking tours.
