Marina di Ragusa lies in the municipality and 25 km south of Ragusa.
Marina di Ragusa used to be a simple fishing village; in the 19th century it then grew into a small town with shops, bars and restaurants.
Marina di Ragusa is a great place for beach holidays. You might also appreciate it being close to interesting, World Heritage listed towns, for example Noto, Ragusa and Modica, which are considered significant centers of the Sicilian Baroque.
Ragusa lies in the Monti Iblei, which are traversed by deep gorges. Over centuries, the town had to come to terms with those geographic conditions.
Its center is divided in two by a gorge. Baroque Ibla, the older part, is more impressive and with its abundance of Baroque buildings particularly fascinating.
When visiting Ragusa-Ibla, allow for the time to walk through the Giardini Iblei at the eastern end of Corso XXV. Aprile. At the end of the charming gardens you have got a good view of the Irminio River valley below and the surrounding gorges.
Every year, the FEE Italia (Foundation for Environmental Education) awards the Blue Flag to the cleanest beaches in Italy. Towns and villages which attach great importance to sustainable development are awarded the "Spighe Verdi" (Green Ears).
The award is based on certain criteria which include, amongst others, educational measures for sustainable development, innovation in the field of agriculture, proper use of the land as well as quality of offers in the field of tourism.
The town of Ragusa in southern Sicily is proud to be among those awarded the Spighe Verdi.
About 7 km from Marina di Ragusa and in the municipality of Santa Croce Camerina lies small Punta Secca, which locals call "A Sicca" (sandbank).
The coastal settlement with its characteristic lighthouse most probably owes its name to a small rock formation off the east side of the beach.
Punta Secca became famous as one of the main settings in the Commissario Montalbano TV series. If you stop by, you can take a look at the house the Commissario calls home in the film adaptations of Andrea Camilleri’s novels.
